Voices of Change
Saturday, September 22, 7:30 p.m.
Portland Vocal Consort's sixth season begins with Voices of Change.
We celebrate the arrival of Autumn with one of the most famous pieces in the choral repertoire:
Palestrina's Pope Marcellus Mass, which has been hailed as one of the greatest Renaissance compositions, and the piece that "saved church music" during the height of 16th century polyphony.
Also included on the program are selections from famed Estonian composer Veljo Tormis' Autumn Landscapes as well as a choral setting of Edward Elgar's "Nimrod" from the Enigma Variations to the text of Lux Aeterna.
Other featured composers include:
Thomas Tallis, William Byrd, Healey Willan, Robert Young, and Johannes Brahms.
The 22 voices of Portland Vocal Consort will perform this concert entirely A Cappella under the direction of our Artistic Director Ryan Heller.
